Brimstone Management

Hell’s most burnt-out field agent, posing as a London literary agent, is ordered to corrupt the last living heir of Lucifer. The boy is untouchable, so Phenex goes after his guardian angel instead.

In Hell, damnation stopped being a tragedy a long time ago. Now it is an administrative procedure, and Phenex is the brilliant, exhausted bureaucrat who processes it. On Earth he passes for a literary agent. After one botched case too many, his vain superior, Prince Zepar, hands him the assignment designed to end his career: corrupt Kit Marlowe, a sensitive, struggling London artist who has no idea he is the last living descendant of Lucifer. Every demon who has come near the boy has been humiliatingly neutralized by Heaven’s most elite guardian unit and its flawless commander, the Archangel Cassiel.

So Phenex doesn’t go after the boy. He goes after the angel. A supernatural noir turns into a metaphysical heist as he assembles a crew of Hell’s most brilliant and least stable outcasts (a paranoid digital ghost living in a pocket hell of raw data, a millennia-old demonic architect drowning in apathy, and a sociopathic illusionist who runs Hell’s most decadent casino) to break into Heaven’s archive and steal the one memory Cassiel has kept buried for centuries. But a shield that comes down leaves a prize in the open, and the war over Kit Marlowe is only the opening move in a much longer game.
